"Glee" Winter Finale: Kelly Clarkson Performance and the GLEE-MAIDS?

Well Gleeks, the day you’ve dreaded has arrived — it’s the winter finale of “Glee.” And while we will have to wait six weeks for another new episode, tonight’s promises some big plot developments and of course, pretty great performances!

The McKinley High New Directions compete against longtime frenemies the Dalton Academy Warblers at Regionals tonight, and as Mr. Shue (Matthew Morrison) promised, there’s a Troubletones performance! The (once defected) ladies of the New Directions take on Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” — the current #1 song in the country. Led by Santana (Naya Rivera) and Brittany (Heather Morris), with some Mercedes (Amber Riley) thrown in, the ladies take girl power to a whole other level.

Oh, and there’s also the potential wedding of Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith)! No word on whether or not the teens actually go through with it, but Lea tweeted this pretty great photo last night of her with her girls, loving entitled GLEE-MAIDS:

Jason Aldean’s Music has ‘Edge and Attitude’

But Aldean is no outlier. He may be the closest thing Nashville has to a country everyman. He’s like a lot of the guys in his audience — hoop earrings, scraggly beard, tight plaid shirt — and he’s open to all kinds of influences.

“I just grew up thinking that good music is good music,” said Aldean. “In our show we’d play like a Waylon (Jennings) song and then we’d turn around and play a Guns N’ Roses song. That represents where I grew up and what I grew up listening to. Macon, Georgia, is a big melting pot of music. Country is always my favorite but I was never ‘Country music is all there is and everything else sucked.’ Guys like Eminem and Ludacris are awesome.”

He may be open-minded, but Aldean’s music has an edge and an attitude — think Kid Rock’s Southern lil’ brother with more maturity and a better voice — that set him apart from such current country superstars as Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley and Keith Urban.

“I see fans reaching now for rougher, edgier and grittier kinds of things,” said concert promoter Gary Marx. “People like Jason Aldean and Eric Church have attitudes. They’re a little fresher and more aggressive, and people are responding.”

But it’s not a manufactured image for Aldean.

“I don’t record songs that aren’t me,” said the plain-voiced country-rocker, who turns 34 this month. “What you see is what you get. I don’t have the energy to go out and be something that I’m not.”

Aldean is in the midst of his first arena headlining tour. This is the second leg, and he’s retooled things for 2012.

“This tour is unlike any we’ve done,” he said recently from a tour stop at Arkansas State University. “We decided to play basically in the round. It’s been a really cool deal.”

In the past year, Aldean has arrived as one of country’s bona fide stars. Not only is he filling concert venues but his “My Kinda Party” took the Country Music Association Award for album of the year in November and ended up as the biggest-selling country disc of 2011.

“It’s crazy, man,” he said. “It’ll have that title ‘album of the year’ forever. It’s a cool feeling.”

In this challenging economy, Aldean knows how to give value. While most albums have 10 or 11 tunes, “My Kinda Party” has 15. While Urban and Chesney asked as much as $80 a ticket in 2011, Aldean’s top price is $50.

“I remember having this conversation with (promoter) Live Nation when we signed with them,” he said. “You can go out and charge 80 bucks for a ticket and have the place half full or you can charge 40 bucks a ticket and have the place completely full and you make the same amount of money. It’s just common sense.

“And it’s no big secret the economy is screwed up. Same with the album. Make them feel like they got their money’s worth.”

Jason Aldine Williams grew up in Macon, a rich musical city known for Little Richard, Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers. As a teenager, he began to appreciate its musical history. “As I got older, I started buying Otis albums,” he said. “He is my favorite singer of all time.”

At 21, he signed a songwriting contract and moved to Nashville. A few years later, an indie-label deal led to his self-titled 2005 debut, which yielded three hits, including a No. 1 single (“Why”). But his career really blew up with his third album, 2009′s “Wide Open,” with three No. 1 country singles including “Big Green Tractor.”

“My Kinda Party,” released 15 months ago, has produced two No. 1 singles (“Tattoos on This Town” and the title track) and two No. 2′s while selling more than 2 million copies. It also led to three Grammy nominations, his first nods from that organization.

Kelly Clarkson Covers Demi Lovato’s Song Skyscraper

The former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson decided to give much props to Demi Lovato by covering her song Skyscraper during a recent concert date.

You can check out the video of Kelly covering the song below, but this is no surprise as she has been taking requests from her fans at each of her concert stops. Kelly told the Universal Studios crowd in Orlando that Skyscraper must be a particular tune that has been asked for in every city. She even commented to the crowd that Demi is such a great vocalist and says that anyone who has ever had a rough time can relate to the song. Meanwhile, this week Kelly’s song “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)’ has reached the top of the Hot 100 chart. The song is Clarkson’s third number one hit. Her previous hits include A Moment Like This and her hit in 2009 with “My Life Would Suck Without You.”

“Stronger” remains at Number One on Billboard’s Digital Songs chart for a second week. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the track sold 237,000 copies during the past week. Kelly has also teamed up with DoSomething.org and VH1 Save the Music Foundation to spread the message of the importance of musical education in schools. What do you think of Kelly’s cover?

‘The Voice’: Alameda singer impresses Christina Aguilera

Young Alameda singer Monique Benabou has a fan in Christina Aguilera.

Benabou, 23, sang a cover of Kelly Clarkson’s “Mr. Know It All” on Monday night’s episode of “The Voice” that had Aguilera raving.

“You started out really strong. Nice tone. Sounds powerful. You were genuinely consistent and you delivered,” Aguilera said after the East Bay performer rocked NBC’s popular singing contest.

Benabou now advances to the next round of the competition as a member of Aguilera’s team. Aguilera was the only judge to turn her chair around during Benabou’s performance. On “The Voice,” Aguilera competes with fellow coaches Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine to build the best 12-person team of singers.

During Monday’s bio segment on Benabou, we learned that she was only 12 when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She spent a lot of time at home, caring for her mom.

“You grow up faster,” she said, reflecting on her youth.

As for the importantce of “The Voice” at this stage of her career, Benabou called it “monumental.”

According to her Facebook page, Benabou was born in Oakland and is the youngest of five children. Her musical influences include Janis Joplin, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Prince and Mariah Carey.

She describes herself as “a gypsy, a free spirit, a truly nomadic being who goes around singing, dancing and smiling.” In a conference-call interview on Tuesday, Beabou said she started singing at the age

of 3 and came into her own while performing musical theater at Alameda High School.

“By the time I reached my junior year, it had become very clear that singing was going to be the only thing that I was going to be satisfied doing in my life,” she said.

Demi Lovato already had her dreams come true when she got to perform a holiday duet with her idol — and America’s first American Idol — Kelly Clarkson at the Z100 Jingle Ball last year, but this still has to be pretty epic for her.

During a section in her current tour where she takes song requests from fans, Clarkson chose to sing a cover of Lovato’s powerful ballad “Skyscraper.” And it doesn’t really come as a surprise that Kelly’s version of the track, minus one lyrical slip up, which she played off so cutely, was fan-damn-tastic. We would totally love it if Demi and Kelly got into the studio and made “Skyscraper” an official duet.

Blake Shelton, ‘The Voice’: Country Coach Has Two Adoring Advisors for Team Blake

After finishing third on ‘Nashville Star,’ Miranda Lambert lost interest in TV singing competitions. It wasn’t until her husband, Blake Shelton, became a judge on ‘The Voice‘ that the country singer once again embraced the subgenre of reality shows beloved by the American public.

“As [last] season went along, she wanted to know every artist I picked,” Blake said in a recent interview with the Sioux City Journal. “She wanted to see DVDs of their auditions. She wanted to know every one of them. Trust me, I got an earful about what direction I should try to take them.”

Miranda got so into ‘The Voice’ that she joined the cast herself, signing on to serve as a mentor to half of Team Blake, the singer’s group of 12 singers. Good pal Kelly Clarkson will coach the other half, and Blake is glad to have both singers help him advise his contestants.

“I’ve never met an artist who loves other artists more than Kelly Clarkson,” says Blake of his pop star buddy. “I’ve never heard her sit back and talk crap about other singers. She’s a fan. She lives and breathes music.”

Blake tells The Boot his strategy for Season 2 is very much the same as last season: to “pick polarizing voices.” But the Oklahoma native will approach his coaching a little differently.

“One of the biggest criticisms I got from my management was I couldn’t fix everything for everybody,” Blake said, reflecting on last season. “When it got down to my final two, I’d never gone through anything like that before in my life. I don’t have kids or a younger sibling. But I cared about these two girls and I wanted to protect them.”

Not that his new gang of hopefuls will need a lot of protecting. As he says, ‘The Voice’ has attracted some top-flight talent.

“This year, we’ve got the kind of singers that damn sure aren’t afraid of anything,” he says. “They go into it ready for battle Day One.”

Anyone who has ever seen Kelly Clarkson in concert, in an interview or in every day life knows that she is an unashamed, unabashed, unapologetic cheeseball.

While filming a VH1 Save the Music Foundation and DoSomething.org “Battle for the Bands” PSA (watch the finished product here), Kelly got a little fast and loose with her lines.

And since there’s no such thing as too much Kelly, last week at her concert stop in Biloxi, Clay Aiken joined her on stage for a performance of Journey’s Open Arms.

Vocally it was amazing, but the best part is listening to the fans react to his surprise appearance. Watch!

ORLANDO –

Singer Kelly Clarkson took some time to visit another attraction as she was in Orlando to perform at Universal Orlando Resort’s annual Mardi Gras celebration Saturday.

The former American Idol winner was at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom the day after she performed for thousands.

Clarkson posed with Princess Belle and Beast from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in the Rose Garden.
